The Facts Of Life – A Guide For Teens And Their Families

This popular booklet offered by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) provides parents of pre-teens and teens all the information they'll need to discuss sex and sexuality in a comfortable and accurate way. In addition to basic information, this booklet provides explanations of boys' and girls' sexual feelings and anatomical growth, reproductive systems, masturbation, menstruation, sexual orientation, pregnancy, birth control, and STIs. Also includes information about relationships -- when they're good for you, when they're not, and how to handle a break up.

 

 

Talking About Sex: A Guide For Families

A video kit prepared by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is the ideal springboard for discussions about puberty, sexuality, and relationships.  Talking about Sex is designed to help reduce the confusion and anxiety adults and youth may feel when talking about sex; to help adults teach youth how to protect themselves and foster positive self-images. Includes different families discussing sex and sexuality and focusing on some of the feelings, questions, and concerns families face when they tackle these subjects, particularly for the first time.

This website, a project of SIECUS, contains numerous resources and documents to empower parents and caregivers to communicate with their children about sexuality-related issues; as well as providing tools to help families communicate about these issues, and encouraging parents, caregivers, and young people to become advocates on the local, state, and national levels for sexuality-related issues including comprehensive sexuality education programs in the schools.

§         Part I – Reviews the research about the effectiveness of programs designed to increase communication about sexuality between parents and other primary caregivers and their children;

 

§         Part II -- Provides examples of innovative approaches from the field that have been used to increase parent-child communication about sexuality-related issues.

 

§         Assorted fact sheets and parent-child communication publications.  Materials are geared toward parents and caregivers.
